I am pleased to share my latest illustrations for Auto Express, visualizing the anticipated return of the iconic Ford Fiesta in 2028.
As Ford prepares for a significant European revival in the electric vehicle sector, I was tasked with conceptualizing the next generation of this classic model for the publication.
The Illustration Process
In creating these renders, my primary objective was to balance modern electric vehicle proportions with authentic brand heritage. I began by meticulously analyzing the front-end silhouettes and new lighting signatures revealed in Ford's recent future-lineup teasers.
Recognizing the automotive industry's shift toward retro-inspired EVs, such as the highly anticipated Renault 5, I used these foundational elements to establish the vehicle's core architecture on the digital canvas. The most significant illustrative challenge was modernizing the design language for an electric platform while ensuring the model remains immediately recognizable as a Fiesta.
Design and Heritage Details
To infuse the concept with the necessary character, I drew direct inspiration from Ford's historical performance models. Key design elements integrated into the render include:
- Classic XR2i Influence: I integrated aggressive styling cues from the legendary XR2i to provide a sharp contrast against the smooth, aerodynamic surfacing typical of modern EVs.
- Front-End Architecture: The design features distinct two-element headlights, serving as a contemporary, digital homage to the classic Fiesta aesthetic.
- Proportions and Stance: Prominent black wheel arch surrounds and an extended track width were incorporated to emphasize the grounded, agile stance characteristic of a Ford hatchback.
The final rendering is a synthesis of nostalgic performance DNA and aerodynamic efficiency, tailored specifically for the electric era.
