As an automotive designer and visual specialist, there are few things more thrilling than being entrusted with the visual resurrection of an icon.

For over a century, the original Austin Seven has been a cornerstone of British motoring history—the car that put a nation on wheels. Now, the newly revived Austin Motor Company (AMC) is returning to the roads, merging that classic charm with modern, electric innovation.

I am incredibly proud to announce my latest collaboration with AMC, where I helped envision the future of this legendary model. I was commissioned to create the hero illustrations for their official launch—including the highly anticipated, all-electric reinvented Austin Seven.

The Project: Modernizing a 100-Year-Old Legacy

When a manufacturer revives a name as historic as the Austin Seven, the visuals have to do heavy lifting. They must instantly respect the heritage of the original car while confidently communicating a 21st-century electric future.

AMC approached me to deliver two critical visual assets to spearhead their digital launch:

  • The Homepage Hero Image: A striking, photo-realistic visual to welcome visitors to austinmotorcompany.com, setting a premium, forward-looking tone for the brand’s return.
  • The New Austin Seven: Featured on its dedicated page, this illustration brings the historic nameplate into the modern era. The challenge was to showcase a clever, spacious city car utilizing a state-of-the-art electric powertrain, compact wheels, a wide track, and independent suspension. My goal was to translate these modern technical attributes into a sleek, undeniable aesthetic that honors its predecessor's clever packaging.

"When a physical production vehicle doesn't exist yet, high-end CGI and photo-realistic illustration become the ultimate tools for storytelling. It allows us to show the world exactly how a classic icon adapts to the electric age."

How We Achieved the Look

Envisioning an electric successor to the original Austin Seven isn't just about making a car look "shiny." It requires a deep understanding of automotive proportions, heritage design cues, and modern surfacing.

  1. Translating Engineering to Art: Working closely with AMC's vision, I highlighted the new Seven's unique architecture. By emphasizing the pushed-out wheels and short overhangs, the illustrations communicate the car's remarkable interior space and stability—a modern nod to the original Seven's efficient design.
  2. Photo-Realistic Lighting & Retouching: A car’s character is defined by how light interacts with its shapes. I utilized advanced CGI techniques to ensure the digital lighting perfectly accentuated the modern, yet retro-inspired, lines of the vehicle.
  3. Brand Consistency: The final images needed to feel cohesive, premium, and inherently "Austin." The result is a set of assets that bridge the gap between historic British motoring and tomorrow's mobility.
