A look at the next generation BMW iX5

BMW is preparing the next-generation X5, internally codenamed G65, with a design evolution that brings it closer to the brand’s “Neue Klasse” philosophy. The renders accompanying this article depict the iX5, the upcoming fully electric version, giving us the clearest idea yet of BMW’s next electric SUV direction.

Design: the iX5 adopts a cleaner, more aerodynamic look with vertical kidney grilles, slim headlights, and flush door handles — emphasizing efficiency and modernity. The rear remains muscular, with horizontal taillights and a retained split tailgate, blending practicality with futuristic appeal.

Tech & interior: inside, expect a minimalist cabin dominated by a wide curved display and BMW’s new “Panoramic Vision” interface, replacing many physical buttons for a more digital experience.

Powertrains: while the combustion and plug-in hybrid versions will remain for traditional buyers, the spotlight is on the electric iX5, which will ride on an advanced EV architecture and showcase BMW’s latest battery and software tech. A hydrogen variant is also in development for 2028.

With its refined proportions and electrified focus, the new X5 range — and especially the iX5 — marks a major step toward BMW’s fully electric SUV future.
