Ferrari goes electric!

A big thank you to @_jakegroves and the team at @carmagazine for inviting me to illustrate this feature for their December issue — always a pleasure bringing future Ferraris to life.

Ferrari’s first EV — the Elettrica — might be the brand’s most advanced car ever, but Maranello knows it can’t force it on traditional buyers. CEO Vigna says Ferrari won’t push EVs onto clients; instead, the Elettrica will attract those already open to electric power. Ferrari’s customer base is evolving fast: collections are growing, and many new collectors could become EV buyers even if Ferrari stays cautious in its rollout.

The Elettrica uses four electric motors — two per axle — delivering around 1000bhp and up to 221mph. A 122kWh battery, developed with SK On and assembled at Maranello, should offer more than 330 miles of range. Heat management is crucial; Ferrari uses resin-cooled technology to maintain performance during hard use. The flat floor pack and motors give engineers huge freedom, enabling advanced torque vectoring and a rear-wheel steering system more capable than anything Ferrari has built before.

Ferrari has returned to physical controls after criticism of touch-sensitive steering wheels. The EV will still deliver emotion: simulated but authentic-sourced sound, a unique guitar-inspired acoustic signature, and haptic torque paddles for gear-style engagement. Ferrari insists it’s not fake theatre — just a new way to deliver excitement.

Designed to excel in markets like China, where high taxes target big engines, the Elettrica reflects Ferrari’s strategy to expand choice while keeping combustion alive into the 2030s. The car may look futuristic, but it stays true to the brand’s core values — performance, innovation, and emotional connection.
