DS Automobiles is hitting the bold reset button on its entry-level lineup, officially ditching the high-riding "Crossback" crossover body style to return the DS 3 to its spiritual roots as a low-slung, chic supermini.

This strategic pivot aims to recapture the cult status of the original 2010 model by prioritizing style and agility over rugged utility, positioning the new car as a direct, premium rival to the MINI Cooper Electric and the reborn Renault 5.

Under the skin, the upcoming generation will be exclusively electric, riding on Stellantis’s cutting-edge "STLA Small" architecture.

This native EV platform allows for a completely flat floor and optimized interior packaging, expected to house a battery capable of delivering a substantial range increase—targeting upwards of 300 miles (approx. 500 km)—along with faster charging speeds that outclass the current e-CMP underpinnings.

Visually, the new DS 3 will shed its bulky SUV cladding in favor of a sharper, more aerodynamic silhouette heavily influenced by the radical DS E-Tense Performance concept. Expect a striking "digital" front grille effect, intricate pixel-like LED lighting signatures, and a modernized, flush-glazed interpretation of the iconic "shark fin" B-pillar that defined the first generation.

Inside, the cabin will double down on French "savoir-faire," likely featuring the brand's signature "watch strap" leather upholstery, guilloché metal accents, and a focus on sustainable luxury materials. By combining this avant-garde design with the dynamic handling benefits of a lower center of gravity, DS plans to offer a sophisticated, fun-to-drive urban EV that blends accessible luxury with genuine character when it arrives around 2027.
