Stripping away the dizzying camouflage from the upcoming BMW 3 Series reveals a confident evolution of Munich’s quintessential sports sedan, brought to life in these exclusive Avarvarii illustrations of the performance-focused M350 xDrive.

By studying the latest test vehicles and analyzing the exposed hard points, we have recreated the muscular, grounded stance of this highly anticipated model. The styling establishes a deliberate and fascinating bridge between the marque’s athletic, internal-combustion heritage and its forward-looking design language. This is not just a facelift; it is a comprehensive reimagining of what a modern sports sedan should look like, wrapping high-performance mechanicals in a sleek, thoroughly modernized shell.

The Design Evolution

Up front, a sharp, shark-nose rake houses a horizontally stretched interpretation of the iconic kidney grille, which flows seamlessly into ultra-slim, dual-element LED headlamps. BMW has chosen to replace busy surface creases with clean, monolithic sheet metal that accentuates the car’s low and wide stance. In profile, the classic long-hood proportions remain unmistakably dynamic, complemented by flush door handles and a crisp, modern take on the famous Hofmeister kink. The rear is equally assertive, featuring thin, wraparound taillights and an integrated lip spoiler. The entire design is anchored by a deeply sculpted rear diffuser that prominently displays the signature quad round exhaust pipes, confirming its status as a true M Performance machine.

A Tale of Two Platforms: CLAR vs. Neue Klasse

While this combustion-powered M350 shares striking visual cues with the forthcoming all-electric BMW i3 sedan, the two cars are shaped by fundamentally different platforms. The pure-electric i3 is built on the dedicated Neue Klasse architecture, allowing for a cab-forward silhouette, a shorter front overhang, and smooth, flush surfaces unburdened by heavy engine cooling requirements. The M350, internally designated as the G50, sits on an extensively updated evolution of the rear-wheel-drive CLAR platform. Accommodating a longitudinal internal combustion engine requires a significantly longer dash-to-axle ratio and functional, open lower bumper intakes to feed cool air to the radiators and intercoolers. Where the i3 emphasizes uninterrupted aerodynamics with a completely sealed underbody and flush rear valence, the M350 asserts its mechanical presence with widened wheel arches, aggressive air curtains, and tailored cutouts for its exhaust system.

Technical Specs: The Most Powerful B58 Yet

Beneath that sculpted, elongated hood, the new model adopts BMW’s revised naming convention by dropping the traditional "i" fuel-injection suffix while elevating the legendary B58 powertrain to new heights. The 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo inline-six engine features updated 48-volt mild-hybrid assistance, generating a formidable 443 horsepower. Power is channeled through a fast-shifting eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission to an intelligent, rear-biased xDrive all-wheel-drive system, enabling a blistering sprint from zero to 100 km/h in just 4.1 seconds. The chassis comes standard with adaptive M suspension, variable sport steering, and an M Sport differential, while rolling on a staggered 20-inch lightweight wheel setup. Perhaps the most exciting technical addition is the new Drift Moment function. When activated through the central display, this system completely decouples the front axle and sends all the engine's power exclusively to the rear wheels, promising an unfiltered, emotionally engaging driving experience dedicated entirely to the joy of going sideways.
