With BMW M officially confirming that their upcoming electric sports sedan will proudly carry the pure, unadulterated M3 nameplate—ditching the rumored "iM3" badge—the transition into the Neue Klasse era represents a massive evolutionary leap for the brand.

In creating my latest illustrations for Avarvarii.com, my goal was to envision how the minimalist, clean surfacing of the Neue Klasse architecture could be transformed into a wide, menacing performance machine that lives up to legendary M heritage.

Rather than chasing the hollow marketing race for four-digit horsepower numbers, BMW’s philosophy with this quad-motor platform centers on relentless agility, thermal endurance, and immediate driver engagement. That disciplined focus directly dictates the aggressive, purposeful proportions of this sedan.

Here is a breakdown of the design elements that bring this electric powerhouse to life.

A Shark-Nosed Predator

Up front, the sleek, minimalist face of the standard Neue Klasse sedan is reimagined into a predatory, shark-nosed front end built for the track.

  • The Digital Mask: The conjoined kidney grille and headlight units form a wide, darkened digital fascia. This is dominated by illuminated, motorsport-inspired diagonal light signatures flanking the central BMW roundel.
  • Aggressive Aero: Below the mask, the front apron is heavily sculpted. It features cavernous cooling ducts, a sharp central aerodynamic keel, and an integrated track-ready splitter.
  • Functional Hood Venting: A prominent central hood vent actively expels air to cool the intense front axle electronics, visually reinforcing the car’s circuit-focused intent.

Signature Lighting & Muscular Stance

A defining visual signature across all four corners of my M3 concept is the distinctive set of vertically stacked dual square lights embedded directly into the outer edges of the bumpers. Positioned low and pushed far to the outer perimeter, these auxiliary light blocks serve as an unmistakable styling hallmark. Not only do they instantly separate the high-performance M3 from the cleaner-cut standard i3 sedan, but they also provide a direct, nostalgic nod to endurance racing lighting.

Along the profile, the design balances crisp body lines with brute force:

  • Flared Fenders: Massively widened wheel arches dramatically broaden the car’s footprint to accommodate a track-width stance.
  • Lowered Center of Gravity: Lowered side skirts and sculpted rocker panels draw the visual weight closer to the asphalt.
  • Aero-Mesh Wheels: The stance frames a set of intricate geometric mesh wheels, blending retro cross-spoke BMW heritage with modern aerodynamic efficiency.

Dominating the Rear (Without Exhaust Tips)

The biggest challenge in designing an electric M car is retaining its menacing rear profile without the help of traditional quad-exhaust tips. At the rear, this design reaches an emphatic conclusion through extreme aerodynamics and clever lighting.

  • Notched Ducktail: A sharp, integrated ducktail spoiler is molded directly into the trunk lid, uniquely notched in the center to highlight an illuminated M emblem.
  • Planted Light Blades: Ultra-slim LED light blades sweep across the decklid, emphasizing the car’s low, planted stance.
  • Oversized Diffuser: To replace the visual weight of exhausts, the lower bumper is dominated by a functional, oversized aerodynamic diffuser featuring a substantial central air tunnel.

Flanked by those matching vertically stacked red corner lights, the entire rear architecture abandons the need for exhaust pipes while retaining every ounce of the muscular, unmistakable presence demanded of a genuine BMW M3.
